Pink Boho Halloween Mantel Reveal + Styling Tips
Today I’m sharing my pink boho Halloween mantel! Each year I get excited to display my Halloween decorations and this year was no different. We’re often bombarded with messages from retailers and influencers saying that we NEED to buy all this new stuff and keep up with the latest design trends. But I’m here to say, no you don’t! In fact, I like shopping my home and flexing my design muscles to see how I can make all my old things LOOK NEW just by styling them differently. This practice saves me money and storage space, not to mention is more ecofriendly. I love a good styling challenge too!

This Year’s Halloween Mantel
This year’s Halloween mantel has an eclectic, boho feel, but with a sprinkling of kawaii! Do you see the Hello Kitty and Pusheen pumpkins I snuck in? They were a DIY project inspired by the Hello Kitty x Pusheen plush collection that was released in 2021. I love that they add some PURR-sonality and cuteness to my mantel!

Mantel Styling
COLOR PALETTE
I’m a huge fan of non-traditional color palettes for my home decor and DIY projects! I’ve used my paint pour pumpkins every year since I made them and they continue to influence my Halloween color palette. I really love how the pastel neon shades pop off my ivory living room wall and mantel without being too glaring. To tie in more pastel and neon colors, I added my neon dip dyed ghost tassels, a neon yellow candle, a pink planter and my “Hello Fall” pink ceramic pumpkin. It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the fairy lights help to accentuate all the glitter on the pumpkins.
CREATING SYMMETRY AND BALANCE
Symmetry and balance are important elements to create a cohesive look for your mantel. You’ll notice in all the other photos of my mantel, I like to create symmetry. To do this I place the largest item in the middle (the starburst mirror), then add smaller pieces on either side. You don’t have to go literally from the largest to the smallest object (this can feel a little TOO intentional), but feel free to play with different sizes of objects, stepping back to see how you like it. You want to make sure one side doesn’t feel “heavier” than the other side.
To achieve a visually balanced look, think about spacing out elements that are made from similar materials. For my mantel, I kept the glass pieces in clusters but they’re still spread out in sort of a triangle shape. The pumpkins are also spaced out nicely. I find this technique helps the eye dance around to different areas of your mantel.
ADDING DEPTH
Depth is a another styling element that makes your mantel look so much more interesting! Instead of lining everything up in a straight line, vary the placement of items – some towards the front, some towards the back. Notice how I leaned a few of the pumpkins on their sides too! This layered look adds dimension and creates an effortless sort of vibe.
PLAYING WITH TEXTURES
When styling an eclectic mantel, you’ll want to pay attention to textures. For my mantel I used a variety of different materials – the glass jars, painted pumpkins, paper books, yarn tassels, and ceramic pieces all lend a hand in creating that lived-in, homey feel! The warm white fairy lights add a touch of whimsy and warmth.
MIXING OLD AND NEW
Because our fireplace is by definition OLD (it’s original to our 1960’s house), I like to mix in pieces that are vintage or at least LOOK old. Adding too many modern elements would clash with the architecture and style of our home. The weathered books and the faux vintage apothecary jars (similar linked here) add some age, while the starburst mirror (similar linked here) is a subtle nod to the era of our house. I love to browse thrift stores to hunt for stuff like this!
